Imperva Incapsula has a growing global network with 27 data centers around the world (focused in North America, Europe and Asia), which gives it a huge network capacity and large-scale scrubbing capacities as well. Imperva claims its network of local PoPs enables it to offer under 10 seconds DDoS attack mitigation, in addition to high scalability. Incapsula also has super PoPs inside its Internet connectivity hotspots, which offer immediate scrubbing power and attack isolation if you get hit by a large attack. They also have a pool of virtual DDoS scrubbing centers, which provide backup support if necessary. It means that they can respond to volumetric attacks by distributing traffic to scrubbing centers that have the capacity to absorb it. These services have allowed them to thwart some of the biggest DDoS attacks ever recorded.
Furthermore, Incapsula hosts a wide variety of DDoS mitigation techniques, which intercept application layer, protocol and volumetric attacks. While bigger does not necessarily equal better, the fact that Incapsula can offer both a large network and many types of mitigation technology allows for more customization for your IT infrastructure. They also offer many other kinds of cybersecurity protection and CDN services built in, from content optimization to web application firewalls.
Incapsula offer three levels of pricing: pro, business and enterprise. Pro is the simplest package at $59 per site, per month, aimed at those who need protection against hackers and malicious bots and want to experience performance improvements from Incapsula’s CDN-based offerings. Business level comes at $200 per site, per month and is aimed at businesses who want application layer DDoS protection, SSL support and generally more sophisticated security solutions. Free trials are offered at the pro and business levels. Enterprise level, the company’s highest, is quoted on an individual basis and offers full DDoS protection, high availability and promises 99.999% SLA and is aimed at “organizations that cannot afford downtime”. Phone support 24/7 is also baked into the enterprise level quote, as is account management. At the lower levels, email support is available only between 8-5.
Incapsula’s clients include Siemens, Thomson Reuters and Wix and its website says their services are used by over 3 million websites. Set-up is straightforward. After you select a plan, you submit the domain URL of the site you want protected. Following this, Incapsula sends over a set of simple instructions on how to modify your DNS records. Once this has been done, your website traffic begins to be routed through Incapsula’s server network until, after a 48 hour period, all your traffic is routed via Incapsula.
